The Open University (the OU) will today join people across the United Kingdom and across the world in celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

The King received an Honorary Degree from the OU in 1982 and on a recent visit to Milton Keynes, described the city as “home to innovation through The Open University”.

Professor Tim Blackman, Vice-Chancellor of The Open University, said:

“On behalf of The Open University, we wish the King and Queen a successful reign, as we join people around the world in celebrating the coronation.

“It was a privilege to meet the King on his recent visit to Milton Keynes where he recognised the innovative role The Open University plays in higher education.

“We are proud to have The King as one of our honorary graduates, The King’s work through the Prince’s Trust, encouraging young people from disadvantaged backgrounds into education and work and his lifelong commitment to the environment aligns strongly with The Open University’s social mission.”
