The Open University’s Natural Sciences degree is accredited for excellence

The Society for Natural Sciences has announced a group of institutions whose degree programmes they have accredited, including The Open University (OU).

The accredited programmes have all been evaluated against the Society’s framework. This provides recognition for offering outstanding quality interdisciplinary science education, providing students with excellent learning opportunities and skills development to prepare them for future careers in research, education, business, or industry.

The Society for Natural Sciences is a professional body for scientists, educators and students working across the discipline boundaries of science.

Dr Eleanor Crabb, Head of the School of Life, Health and Chemical Sciences and Natural Sciences Qualification Director, commented:

“We are delighted the Natural Sciences programme has been accredited by the Society for Natural Sciences, recognising the value of the interdisciplinary science that the programme offers.

The assessors were especially complimentary about the support and feedback provided to our students.”

Professor Nicky King, Chair of the Society for Natural Sciences, said:

“We are proud to have implemented this first of its kind interdisciplinary accreditation scheme, which is already improving the way interdisciplinary science is taught in the UK.

We’re delighted for all those successful institutions and hope this is just the start of a rewarding partnership with them, and others who apply in the future, to continue to raise both standards and opportunities for studying interdisciplinary science in the UK”
